It Begins - Sweet Simple Health

My name is Karissa and Im tired of being unhealthy and out of shape. I LOVE sugar. I mean absolutely love it! Which is why currently, Im on the 21 Day Sugar Detox. I had gotten to the point where I ate nothing all day but sugar and refined carbohydrates for the day. Literally! Im a first year teacherin a very low school that is on an improvement plan. So to say the least Ive been pretty stressed and therefore I turn to snacking. I have a desk that is perfect for storing all sorts of sugary treats that are easy to grab at a moments notice. My latest stash consisted of big bags of Reeses, Smores Poptarts, Sixlets, and cookies. I would go through all this in one week, without even realizing it! I would pack a healthy lunch but in the midst of snacking it would usually go untouched because I was either full, or after eating sweets all morning, a healthy lunch did not sound appealing. Towards the end of the day I would crash. I felt like my legs were about to give out from under me and I would get very jittery, if I didnt get some more sugar. Little did I know it has a name, sugar crash. My poor husband would come home from work hungry, but never me. I was so full from snacking all day long I never wanted real food.

One day as I was browsing Instagram I saw a post about the 21 Day Sugar Detox book. After looking it up on Amazon, I immediately ordered it. I told my husband about it and I had his support 110%. Once I received the book and started reading, I was shocked at how similar I was to the author and really realized that I had a problem. Yes, I know, some of you are thinking its just sugar. cut out some candy and youll be fine. Well my issue was way bigger than that. I had every single symptom of overeating sugar, I was shocked! It finally hit me that I was ADDICTED to sugar, really, like an addict. So I started on my detox journey. Currently I am on day 9 and am doing quite well. It has been SO hard though. Basically, Ive had to cut out pretty much every single thing that I eat and incorporate healthy, wholesome foods. Ive always wanted to eat this way but could never bring myself to do it, or at least follow through with it. Out with the sweetened coffee, fruit, bread, ice cream, peanut butter and everything else I love. Im starting to feel better after the very rough first week of withdrawals, but still have so many cravings.

Even though I am still on the journey, its made me see that I want to have a healthy life and actually be healthy! I dont want to be a slave to sugar anymore. Im tired of only wanting sugar and Im tired of bingeing all the time and hating myself. I want to make the most out of my life and I want to be healthy for my wonderful husband and my future little ones. All in all.Im starting this blog to keep me accountable and to help anyone out there who has had the same struggle as me.
